Biggest upsets in sports history

If you are an avid sports bettor in Kenya, you want to watch a specific sport to stay updated on the games and statistics of your team. Over the years, there are spectacular sports feats that everyone enjoys, like an underdog winning or a group having a winning streak that took too long before being defeated.

However, sports are not scripted, and upsets will happen. If you are a sports bettor and bet on a team that won and caused that upset, there is a big chance that you will win a huge amount just because of being on the opposite pole. For the fan with no ties, these are some of the greatest moments in sports history.

For the team’s upset fans, some of these tragic events still haunt them, making them only wish never to have to experience something as upsetting as that ever again.

U.S Hockey team defeating the Soviet Union

In the 1980 winter Olympics, sports fans thought that the Soviet Union would win the hockey championship because of their experience and tradition regarding the sport compared to Americans. This championship is the classic example of a David versus Goliath triumph where the amateurs won over professionals.

Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson was considered the world’s greatest boxer as he demolished all his opponents in the ring. However, an unknown boxer named James “Buster” Douglas, whom everyone thought Mike Tyson would pummel to the canvas, enters the ring and publicly humiliates Tyson with a technical knockout.

New York Giants defeating the New England Patriots

The Patriots performed excellently in the 2007 Super Bowl to the point that they are looking to complete their perfect season. Everyone was expecting that New England would win the year with coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. However, the Giants became somebody when they defeated the opposing team.

Rulon Gardner defeats Alexander Karelin

Alexander Karelin had been undefeated and unscored in international competitions before the Olympics. Because of this fact, no one believed in Rulon Gardner that he could defeat the wrestling behemoth. Rulon had no family or team to rely on but still managed to put a dent in Karelin’s undefeated streak in the 2000 summer Olympics.

Denver Nuggets defeating Seattle SuperSonics

The Nuggets were the No. 8 seed in the 1994 NBA playoffs that season, but Mutombo came up huge for the team to stop their opposition of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. Starting the series 2-0, the Nuggets roared back to take the next three games and moved onto the next round.

Robin Soderling defeating Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal is one of the most notorious players in the French Open as he is rarely defeated. Nadal came into this semifinal match winning the four last French Opens, and it was pretty much guaranteed that he would be in the final once again. However, Soderling managed to win against Nadal with set scores of 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, and 7-6 (7-2).
